Former MLB pitcher, Joe Thatcher, invited us to his office this morning at Grand Park Sports Campus. The 400+ acre complex is home to the Indianapolis Colts Training Camp, Pacers Athletic Center, and Pro X Athlete Development. It includes 31 multi-purpose fields, 26 diamonds, 377,000 square foot Events Center with 3 indoor full-size synthetic fields. We got an overview of the operations that includes managing tournaments, food and beverage, full service print shop, apparel, and more. Bullpen Tournaments, the management company that oversees operations at Grand Park manages similar sports complexes not just in Indiana but across the country. We had the chance to tour Pro X and hear Joe’s vision for starting the development facility after retiring from Major League Baseball. An interesting fact he shared was the economic impact Grand Park has on the region with 5 million visitors to the campus annually. That impact affects Kokomo to, as Bullpen Tournaments manages our local Championship Park.
